📌 Bardin studied mathematics at Moscow University, and completed his Candidate of Sciences degree in 1920 under Pavel Alexandrov, followed by a doctoral dissertation in 1923 on singularities of three-dimensional algebraic surfaces. He worked as a lecturer in Moscow University until 1940, then became effective head of the mathematics department, succeeding Alexandrov in 1947. In 1950 he became Professor at the Steklov Mathematical Institute and Director of its Moscow branch.
